Virginia Spores was founded by Walt Clyde, a former nonprofit research analyst. For years, his career was defined by analyzing data and interpreting complex studies.

In 2019, following a a head injury, he turned his research background inward, diving into peer-reviewed clinical trials on functional foods, cellular health, and neurogenesis. The research continually pointed back to one remarkable subject: functional fungi.

Realizing that the whole-food matrix of fresh mushrooms offered biological benefits that isolated supplements simply could not replicate, he traded his desk for a fruiting chamber. Virginia Spores was born out of a desire to grow the highest-quality, compound-rich mushrooms and make them accessible to our local community

The Intersection of Agriculture and Organic Chemistry

Virginia Spores is a closed-loop mushroom farm located in Virginia's historic Northern Neck. We specialize in the cultivation, science, and culinary application of functional mushrooms, specifically Oyster and Lion's Mane varieties.

But we didn't start as farmers. We started with a search for better health.
