We teach hands-on oyster mushroom growing classes in small groups across Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Fredericksburg. Sessions are capped at five people. You leave with an Oyster Pail grow kit ready to fruit and a complete understanding of what to do with it.

What You Learn

The class covers the full cycle: what mushrooms actually need to fruit, how to read your environment, what goes wrong and why, and how to set up a system that produces consistent harvests at home without expensive equipment. We have grown thousands of pounds of oyster mushrooms since 2022, starting in a single room before building out a dedicated grow facility in Essex County, Virginia. The instruction comes from real production experience, not a book.

What You Take Home

Every participant leaves with an Oyster Pail grow kit — our ready-to-fruit fruiting block in a reusable pail — loaded and ready to produce a harvest within two weeks. You will have the hands-on experience to manage it correctly, the troubleshooting knowledge to handle any problems, and a direct line to us if you have questions after the class.

Class Size and Format

Five people maximum per session. That is intentional. Smaller groups mean more hands-on time, better questions, and a format that actually resembles learning from a working farm rather than a classroom. Sessions run approximately three hours and include hands-on substrate work, a tour of the Virginia Spores grow operation, and a Q&A covering whatever you want to know about production, yields, or scaling.

Locations

Classes are held at rotating locations across Northern Virginia, Fredericksburg, and Richmond, chosen for accessibility from the major population centers. We also offer classes on the farm in Essex County for groups that want the full farm experience. Private sessions for groups of up to five are available by request.
